eLLEN tEMMINK IS RESEARCHING THE HUMAN FACTOR IN AGRICULTURE

WHAT IS A NUFFIELD SCHOLARSHIP?

empowering future leaders in agriculture

A Nuffield Farming Scholarship is one of the most valuable and prestigious awards in the Netherlands, with only a few granted each year to individuals who are seen as future leaders in the agricultural sector.

By offering this opportunity to pioneers in agriculture, Nuffield Netherlands aims to encourage the entire agricultural sector to develop in entrepreneurship, sustainability, and innovation. Our objective is to enhance practical agricultural knowledge and management skills.

The scholarships give entrepreneurs the opportunity to broaden their expertise by learning and studying in countries that best match the chosen topic of their study. In addition, the scholars strengthen the exchange of knowledge between agricultural entrepreneurs in the countries they visit.

Upon returning to the Netherlands, scholars are expected to actively share their knowledge with agricultural entrepreneurs and a broader audience.

THE JOURNEY

START OF THE SCHOLARSHIP

JAPAN (20 FEBRUARY - 16 MARCH)

The research starts in Japan. One week of solo-research at Okinawa (blue zone) and Ishigaki. Two weeks in Tokyo and Awaji Island with a group of 80 scholars worldwide.

The aim of those three weeks is to refine the research question; by starting, by getting inspired and by reflecting. Ellen’s theme is the human factor in agriculture. She is fascinated by our kind! ;) And she wonders about the fact that there is a lot of knowledge, craftmanship, passion, and chances in order to produce healthy food within earth’s healthy boundaries. But why don’t we massively act in that way?

What can we do, what responsibility can we (and Ellen herself) take, to take our role in order to unfold (or reform?) a healthy agricultural system?

This journey is made possible by Provincie Overijssel and LTO Noord.

Is

WHAT DOES ELLEN AIM FOR?

a woman on a mission

Ellen aims to become the expert in collaboration between humans, human nature and nature, in agriculture. Collaboration thrives in mutual understanding and trust. With sharing her experiences, knowledge, working together, and creating events with a safe space to share, she will become an impact factor in the worldwide food system.

It might be a beautiful coincidence that Ellen’s research takes place in the year of the woman farmer.D

It

How can you help? collaborate!

This research is made possible by our partners Provincie Overijssel and LTO Noord. They both share financial resources and network. To deepen the research, and make more impact, Ellen is searching for more collaborations.

Are you an organization that acts on the crossing of agriculture, humans and sustainability: it’s probably worth to explore how we can enforce each other.
